Victim-Witness Unit

The Victim-Witness Unit provides case assistance to victims and witnesses of property, violent, and DUI crimes. The three staff members of the unit provide updated case information and guidance through the court process for the State’s witnesses. The staff assists the attorneys in preparing victims and witnesses for testimony, answers questions about the court process, attends court hearings with victims, and serves as a liaison between witnesses and the attorneys throughout the proceedings. Referrals to community resources can also be made for additional assistance the State’s Attorney’s Office cannot provide. Professional therapy can be obtained for surviving family members of homicide victims, at no cost. The staff also determines the amount of restitution that is owed to crime victims and facilitates the return of stolen property that has been recovered by law enforcement.
