Deferred Prosecution Program

The Deferred Prosecution Program has offered an alternative to prosecution in court for first time offenders with drug dependencies since 1995. Its goal is to reduce recidivism by addressing drug abuse through treatment and counseling, rather than through formal prosecution, thereby breaking the cycle of continued criminal activity. Participants are required to pay a fee to the county, and to complete a drug treatment program and any other conditions imposed. Upon successful completion of the program participants avoid having a criminal conviction on their record.
